Monkey Petals offers a variety of fresh floral arrangements. We also offer beautiful plants of all sizes. Our silks for the Cemetery are made with care to endure the elements from season to season.
Our Story
Monkey Petals began in September 2023 as a mobile '‘Build your own Bouquet” flower stand and an old bicycle setting up at local events. This weekend business quickly developed into a “work from home" business. My home was over run with fresh flowers, silk flowers, vases, ribbon and all things floral. In August 2024, I was given the opportunity to move into a storefront in downtown Ashford. God didn't let me just think about it. He said DO IT! So on October 17, 2024, surrounded by friends, family, city officials and employees, we officially opened the doors of our storefront at 422 N Broadway St in Ashford. God has been faithful to us as He promised.
The Story behind the Name…
In 2023 when God put this flower adventure on my heart, I didn't know where this adventure would lead or what I was doing. He just said DO IT so I followed His lead. The first purchase I made was an old yellow bicycle. Little did I know where God was going with this purchase.
Many of you remember The Petal Pusher in Ashford and the owner, Hugh Deese. When I moved to Ashford in 1989, Hugh and Karen were among some of the first people I met. Hugh and Karen became dear friends to us. When my oldest son was just beginning to talk, Hugh wanted him to call him “Uncle Hugh”. No matter how hard my son tried, it always came out as " Monkey Hugh" and even Karen became known as “Monkey Karen'“. Hugh will always and forever be Monkey Hugh to our family. Hugh was a gifted florist. He could take a piece of junk and turn it into a beautiful masterpiece. He was a friend to so many near and far. Sadly Monkey Hugh passed away in 2020.
Now in 2023, having purchased the old yellow bicycle and still following God's lead, He lead me to honor Monkey Hugh by naming my new flower adventure “Monkey Petals". There will never be another Hugh Deese. He left a legacy and shoes no one will ever fill. I just trust that God will allow me to, not only honor Him, but to honor Monkey Hugh as well, in all I do.
